Mark Sheeky (born 1972) is the premier surrealist artist operating in Britain today, with work in the national art collection in the Grosvenor Museum, a member of the Society for Art of Imagination, winner of the Jobling Gowler art award, the Grosvenor Open Art Award, and many more, with artwork exhibited and collected nationally and internationally.
A professional artist for ten years, Mark is committed to artistic excellence and professionalism, pushing creative boundaries in art and exploring every medium. Mark began as an independent computer game developer, and has developed and self-published over 50 computer games for Amiga and Windows PC, then chose to master oil painting, selecting a detailed and classical style with an emphasis on skill, patience and draughtsmanship. As a writer, Mark is a published author, with one novel and two short stories published and three poetry collections, and has licenced artwork for books, albums and commercial graphics.
As a musician, Mark has composed and released over twenty albums of music of all styles; from commercial pop music to classical works. His 2015 album Art by Machine was one of the first commercial albums composed by an artificial intelligence. As a pianist, Mark has performed at several venues throughout the northwest of England, and a new suite of solo piano compositions is currently in development for performance at Chester Cathedral to accompany his monumental sculpture; “Envy and Beauty”.
Mark’s artworks convey emotions and ideas; using symbolism to convey a narrative, and convey a heart-felt emotion using subconscious imagery. These are not mere dreamworks or random images, but imaginative placement of objects in unfamiliar surroundings, each beautifully painted, to create a powerful emotional effect. For Mark, art is about the transmission of feeling, and feelings about relationships; hopes, loss, dreams and a dark and sublime beauty.
